A principle that appears often across spiritual traditions is the idea that the infinite field (heaven/the cosmos) and the earth mirror each other — that what exists above is reflected below. You may know it from the Christian prayer “on earth as it is in heaven.” You’ll also see similar philosophy in Kabbalah, Hermetic tradition, as well as Reiki, where the Sei He Ki symbol carries this meaning directly: as above, so below.
That principle has a living architecture — one that is operating in and through you right now. And that architecture is the Light Column, which is also known as “The Central Channel.”
Most people are familiar with the seven primary chakras, running from root to crown through the central column of the body, but not everyone is aware that those seven centers are not the full circuit. The energetic system extends further — below your feet and above your head — forming a complete circuit that connects the living earth beneath you to the infinite field of Source Energy above. That complete circuit is the Light Column, also known as the Central Channel — and understanding how it works is where this framework comes alive.
The Two Anchor Points
Every person has a Light Column. For each one, it is anchored by two interface nodes just outside the physical body. The first node resides approximately 12–18 inches beneath a person’s feet and is called the Earth Star Chakra. The second node resides approximately 6–18 inches above a person’s head and is called the Soul Star Chakra. These are distinct energetic structures — separate from the root and crown, which are the most familiar entry points into the system but not its full extent. The energetic system has no true boundary; it extends outward in both directions into something much larger. The Earth Star Chakra and Soul Star Chakra are simply the next layer out — the points where your personal field interfaces with that larger flow.
The Earth Star Chakra sits at the boundary between physical energy and template reality — Level 4 in the 9 Levels of Consciousness framework. It holds and transmits your soul’s blueprint, and it is the node through which Grounding Earth Energy enters your system. Extending downward from it through whatever physical structure lies beneath you — floor, building, earth — down into the deep, is the Grounding Cord.
The Soul Star Chakra maps to Level 2: Individual Soul/Spirit — still distinctly you, but positioned right at the edge of Level 1, the Oversoul and the field of infinite possibility. It is the node through which Source Energy enters your system. Extending upward from it into higher dimensions is the Crystal Cord, also known in esoteric traditions as “The Rainbow Bridge” — the upward counterpart to the Grounding Cord below (pet lovers who know the Rainbow Bridge will want to check out the note at the bottom of this post — the connection is real and it’s a good one).
The Two Energy Flows
Grounding Earth Energy rises upward — concentrated, nutrient-rich, the infinite made tangible. It enters through the Earth Star Chakra, moves up through the Grounding Cord, rises through each energy center from root to crown, and returns back down and out, completing its loop. It flushes and clears as it moves, releasing what no longer serves and returning it to the earth for transmutation.
Source Energy flows downward — expanded, infinite, containing pure consciousness and pure possibility. It draws in through the Crystal Cord, enters at the Soul Star Chakra, and pours down through the crown and through each energy center from crown to root. From there it travels back up through the shoulders and out through the hands, as well as extending back out over the entire aura, refreshing the whole energetic field.
Together, these two flows trace a toroidal energy pattern — the same donut-shaped field found throughout the universe, from the electromagnetic field around your heart to the shape of galaxies. This is a flow that already exists and always has — you are simply participating in it. As above, so below — and both directions are essential to the circuit.
The Energy Centers as Conduit
The seven main energy centers — root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, pineal/third eye, and crown — run through the central column of the body between these two anchor nodes. They are the conduit through which both energy flows move, and the state of each center directly affects the quality of flow through the entire system.
When energy centers are clear and balanced, both flows move freely. When they are blocked, imbalanced, or carrying unresolved emotional weight, that congestion creates resistance in the channel — what Elevated Thought identifies as constricted flow. A clogged pipe does not stop being a pipe, but it cannot carry full volume. The Light Column is your native energetic architecture — always present, always active — and the energy centers are the variable that determines how fully you experience that connection. They require regular, intentional maintenance.

- Source Energy pours down through the Soul Star Chakra, through each energy center from crown to root, and out both arms as well as over the entire aura
- Both flows move simultaneously, tracing a continuous toroidal field
The Light Column is your native energetic architecture — the structure through which you are simultaneously grounded in physical reality and connected to the infinite field of possibility. Maintaining good energy center hygiene is what keeps the channel clear and those connections strong — supporting emotional peace, clear intuitive guidance, and a felt sense of safety in physical reality.
Actionable Insights
- Approach the Energy Centers Hygiene practice as regular system maintenance. Your energy centers are the conduit through which both flows move — regular maintenance is what keeps the channel at full capacity.
- When you feel disconnected from Source, start below, not above. The Soul Star responds to the upward flow initiated by the Earth Star. If the connection above feels thin, the first move is to ground more deeply.
- Both flows are always moving. The question is never whether you are connected, but whether the channel is clear enough to experience that connection fully.
- Notice the state of your energy centers as information. Congestion in the channel is data. Meeting what you find with curiosity rather than judgment, as the Energy Centers Hygiene practice teaches, is itself what begins to restore flow.
A Note on the Rainbow Bridge
You may be familiar with the Rainbow Bridge — the beloved poem describing the place where pets wait to be reunited with their owners after death. What many people don’t know is that the imagery draws directly from Norse mythology, where Bifröst is the shimmering bridge connecting Midgard, the human realm, to Asgard, the realm of the gods — a bridge between here and the divine.
The Crystal Cord operates on the same principle. The difference is that it is not a bridge you cross after death — it is a living connection you can work with right now, in this body, in this life. As above, so below. The bridge has always been here.
