Trusting the Flow: Following Your Passion

Many of us have experienced moments when time seems to fly by, and we feel more alive than ever—fully immersed in what we love. Those are moments of being in the flow—feeling fully present and engaged in what we’re doing. When we listen to Source or our higher self (or whatever name we give to the deeper wisdom within), whether it’s through passion, excitement, peace, or any of those higher-vibration feelings, we are naturally drawn more firmly into the flow. But what happens when we resist that flow? When we push ourselves in directions that don’t align with our passions, we can feel the weight of resistance and the loss of joy. This post is an exploration of trusting the flow, releasing the “shoulds” that often hold us back, and learning to embrace what truly lights us up.

Swimming With or Against the Current

Imagine trying to swim upstream, pushing against a strong current. It requires constant effort and drains your energy. Now imagine turning around and swimming downstream, moving with the current. Everything feels smoother, easier, and less forced. This analogy captures the difference between living from a place of constriction or force versus living in alignment with our passions. Flow isn’t a fixed state; it has a wide range of motion and depth. We may find ourselves in a partially stagnated stream (as described in the “hindered flow” in Elevated Thought) or in the powerful current of a river, yet both are moving toward greater alignment. The more we fight against the flow of our true self, time feels long, energy feels scarce, and we may even feel drained or unfulfilled.

However, when we follow our passion, it’s as though time collapses. Bashar speaks of this sensation in a way that resonates deeply: when you’re doing something you truly love, time seems to pass differently. You may work on a project for hours, but it feels like only a few minutes. It’s as if the joy of living in alignment with our purpose slows the effects of time on us, while everything around us carries on. This concept speaks to the rejuvenating power of flow—how it not only lightens our spirit but also enriches our physical well-being.

The caution here is that the opposite is true too. Constantly forcing ourselves to do things we don’t prefer, living in a state of constricted flow, will needlessly wear us down and age us. Often we do these things because we feel we have no choice, but sometimes if we search our hearts deeper, we may find we have a negative belief that is holding us hostage. There are many false beliefs people have about finances, one common one is that survival requires toil. If we don’t we release beliefs like this, they can keep us caught in stagnancy making life feel like nothing but drudgery. Recognizing this distinction between flow and force (unhindered and constricted state) is essential. While flow rejuvenates us, moving against it can drain our energy and dampen our spirit.

Flow, then, isn’t just a state of ease; it’s a signal from our higher self, communicating through our excitement and passion, guiding us toward our truest path. When we embrace our passions (as shared in this post on inner guidance), we’re not only aligning with the higher version of ourself, but also releasing the burdens that come from forcing ourselves into roles and activities that don’t fit.

Embrace the Joy and Spark of Passion

Trusting the flow and following our passion brings a joy that is both fulfilling and contagious. When we do what we love, it not only enlivens us but also sparks inspiration in others. Think about those people in your life who seem lit up from within—pursuing what excites them. Their passion can feel almost magnetic, like a spark that ignites something within us too.

Conversely, working from a place of force, pushing ourselves to do things we don’t love, can feel draining and even “soul-sucking.” The energy we spend forcing ourselves in directions that don’t resonate with us can deplete us, leaving us tired and uninspired. True fulfillment, however, comes from doing what our heart loves. When we lean into this flow, it creates an inner light that not only lifts our own spirit but also illuminates the path for others.

Embrace the Power of Alignment

Aligning with our passion is essential for personal growth and an intentional, fulfilled life. This alignment isn’t simply about feeling good; it’s about connecting to our higher self’s guidance and allowing life to unfold from that place of ease and excitement. When we trust the flow, we honor ourselves, opening the door to new experiences and opportunities that genuinely resonate with our true path. And as we release the “shoulds” that keep us stuck, we free ourselves to create a life that reflects who we truly are.

Actionable Insights

  1. Notice the Activities that Light You Up. Pay attention to what excites you, even if it’s a small part of your day. What activities make you lose track of time? These moments can offer clues about your passions and what your higher self may be guiding you toward.
  2. Release the “Shoulds.” Whenever you catch yourself doing something out of a sense of obligation, pause and ask: Is this aligned with my true self? Let go of tasks or routines that feel heavy and find ways to replace them with activities that bring you joy.
  3. Make Space for Flow. Set aside time to engage in activities you love, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day. Allowing yourself this space can help you reconnect with your passion and strengthen your trust in the flow.
  4. Share Your Passion with Others.
When you’re excited about something, let it be known! Your enthusiasm can be contagious, sparking a positive energy in those around you and even helping them find their own flow.
